Danish pastry, known the world over for variety of flower, shape & special flaky taste, has its origin going back many, many generations. Young bakers just out of apprenticeship would travel down through Europe invariably by foot, to collect a variety of skills to enhance and improve their trade, hence, the variety of pastry & bread.

Born in Denmark, Flemming Hansen realized his career path at the young age of 16 when he began trade school as a baker. After three years as a journeyman he came to America as an exchange student to Solvang – a Danish community in Southern California – to work as a baker. He then continued his apprenticeship in Burlingame, California at yet another Danish Bakery, where he worked for 12 years making authentic old world pastries.

In 1997, the Hansen Family moved to the east coast to be closer to their extended family, and Flemming continued to work as a baker. on July 1, 1998, the Hansen’s opened the Copenhagen Bakery of Northport, with Stace running the store and Flemming baking the product. In a short time business and the friendly, caring staff grew, with most of the business coming from “word of mouth”.

It’s a sence of “celebration” that one feels when pausing at the shop windows of the little Danish bakery on Woodbine Ave in Northport – “ Copenhagen Bakery”. The tradition of quality, variety and flavor has been retained to give a mouth watering experience to its many local customers.
